18 years ago, Michael Myers and Kevin Pugh each brought a high level of expertise together to offer an exceptional jewelry experience. Michael came to the working force at a young age with a successful paper route, eventually building it to 125 customers. At 16, he began his jewelry career working for H. L. Art Jewelers in Heath, Ohio. Even though his journey through life would lead him to other careers, a trip back to Heath for a wedding would herald his return to the business of jewelry. “At this point, I decided jewelry would be my career and I decided to learn as much as possible, so I became a student again at The Gemological Institute of America,” said Mike
After ten years with H.L. Art, Mike knew it was time to branch out on his own. He opened Mid-Ohio Gem Lab. Upon completion of his studies he attained the prestigious title of Graduate Gemologist which made him a natural at appraising jewelry. That soon led him to the insurance replacement business. Michael decided to move to a new location where he opened M. K. Myers Jewelers.
Mike worked a few years on his own before he and Kevin Pugh decided to bring their years of knowledge and expertise together, so in 1995, Myers & Pugh Designer Jewelers was born. Their first location was on South 4th Street. Then, in 2010, they moved their store to 44 South 2nd Street in front of the Works. Advancement in education for Michael came when the firm was accepted into the American Gem Society, where he earned the titles of Registered Jeweler, Certified Gemologist and Certified Gemologist Appraiser.
Along with his successful and fulfilling professional life is his equally fulfilling personal life. Mike and his wife Shelly married in 1983 and reside in Heath. They have two adult daughters, Chelsea and Dakota.
In his free time, Michael enjoys playing golf, ornithology, writing poetry and steel target handgun shooting. He is a 20-year member of the Moundbuilders Country Club, a former member of Heath Lions, and a 25-year member and past-president of the Newark-Heath Rotary.
2014 will find Mike spending more time on the golf course as he begins the next leg of the journey of his life, his retirement. “We are happy that Mike will continue to offer his appraisal expertise as part of our team, so that our customers will continue to receive the same great service they have come to know and expect at Myers & Pugh,” said Kevin Pugh.
November 4th - December 31st, Myers & Pugh will host the most impressive sale in their history.
“This retirement sale is one of the greatest ways we can honor Mike for all he has contributed to Myers & Pugh over the years,” said Kevin Pugh.
